In December 1891 the world changed when Dr James Naismith invented basketball after looking for a game that could be played indoors by his YMCA team during the cold Springfield Mass winters. Fifty miles away Irving Watkinson's recently formed Colchester Rubber Co. came to the party providing the footwear for Dr James' and YMCA teammates' new ball game.
Within a year Pro-Keds would take control of Colchester and they were lost to history. An unearthing of an original pair of Colchester's in 2004 led a bunch of sneaker loving folk to bring back the original shoe. Apart from a little technological improvements that time has brought, you're looking at what was a groundbreaking piece of kit. Enjoy!
